At Under the Lights, we require our coaches to be certified in two NCCP certifications: (1) Coaching Initiation in Sport & (2) Making Headway Certification.
The NCCP Coach Initiation in Sport module introduces new or experienced coaches to the foundational skills of coaching, such as long-term athlete development, ethics, coaching motivation, and athlete safety and wellness. NCCP Making Head Way module is designed to help you gain the knowledge and skills required to ensure the safety of your athletes. This football module will cover what to do to prevent concussions, how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion, what to do when you suspect an athlete has a concussion and how to ensure athletes return to play safely.
For only $15, this informational resource will take approximately one hour to complete. To complete these certifications, visit thelocker.coach.ca and create an account. The cost for this certification will be rebated upon proof of completion to the Oakville commissioner.
Every coach or volunteer directly working with the players must present a recent Police background check. The type of report is called a "Vulnerable Sector" check. Assuming you're a Halton resident, below is the link to the online portal to request the Vulnerable Sector Check. If you live outside of Halton, consult your local police services to request a check. Cost in Halton is $30 and will be rebated upon proof of delivery to the Oakville commissioner.
